Behind an unassuming door in the grounds of the Milingimbi School in the Northern Territory you will find the Milingimbi Community Library. On the shelves – a collection that includes a variety of books in local language, English, LOTE alongside books that explore the historical events of Milingimbi from the perspective of its local inhabitants.

Book Culture in Mparntwe

‘Community Publishing in Regional Australia’ is a collaborative research project funded by the Australian Research Council’s Linkage Project scheme. It brings together researchers from Melbourne and Brisbane, book industry partners and four regional Australian councils to explore writing and publishing activity in Australia’s regional communities.

Adding Central Australian Historical Images to Wikimedia Commons: Wikimedia Australia’s partnership with Alice Springs Public Library

At the end of 2023, Wikimedia Australia partnered with the Alice Springs Public Library, located in the heart of Mparntwe, to add a selection of images from the Central Australian Historical Images Collection to Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia Commons is a free media file repository where individuals and institutions, including those from the GLAM sector, can make files available.
