Dr Ellie Abdi: exploring how people experience and use information in their everyday lives

Originally published in INCITE Magazine Volume 46, Issue 2

Research program description: Dr Ellie Abdi is an information researcher exploring how people experience and use information in their everyday lives. Her current research program focuses on developing Information eXperience Design (IXD) – a framework that draws on people’s real-world experiences with information to shape better ways of interacting with it. The goal? To help communities use information more meaningfully and powerfully.

So far, Ellie has explored IXD in the context of migrant communities to uncover the different ways migrants seek, share and learn from information. She has worked with librarians in both Australia and the US to explore how this understanding can inform library services and programs.

Ellie plans to extend this research to other communities and would love to hear from library professionals interested in collaborating. Together, she thinks, we can co-design information offerings that truly support the diverse needs of our communities.
